Fanfest 2022 - Return to Iceland and the Uprising Reveal

Fanfest 2022 ran 5-8 May 2022 at Reykjavik's Laugardalshöll Sport Center - the classic-era Fanfest venue, swapped in for Harpa for this iteration to ease post-pandemic distancing logistics. It was the first in-person CCP convention since the 2019 EVE Invasion World Tour ended in November 2019, and the first CCP Fanfest in Reykjavik since the 2020 edition was cancelled to COVID.

The 2022 keynote was the public reveal of the Uprising expansion, shipping in November 2022 - the first major numbered expansion in years. The on-stage scope:

  • A from-scratch Faction Warfare overhaul, with a new "frontline" territorial system clearly marked in-game and a new allegiance system that let pilots participate in FW content without leaving their current corporations.
  • A multi-year storyline arc delivered as recurring in-game live events, framed as the player-driven sequel to the Triglavian Invasion.
  • Four new faction navy ships to anchor the FW reboot.
  • Quality-of-life passes on FW economy, LP, and the empire militia hierarchies.

Beyond the keynote, Fanfest 2022 was emotionally charged: it was a reunion event after two and a half years of distancing, the first time many pilots had met in person since pre-COVID, and CCP openly framed it as a "we made it" moment for the company and community. The Party at the Top of the World ran on Saturday night.
