Legion - Capital Ships, Freelance Jobs, and Sov Maturity

Image: CCP Games · (c) CCP Games (used under CCP fan-content policy)

Legion (27 May 2025) is the first major sovereignty-system follow-on to Equinox: four system-wide Stability Generators, three-tier resource conversion upgrades, single-click skyhook capture, and the return of escalating exploration sites. Two new capital-class hulls - the Triglavian Babaroga marauder and the Angel Cartel Sarathiel dreadnought - reshape capital and subcap fleet doctrines. Freelance Jobs introduce a corp-driven gig economy bridging unattached pilots and player corporations.

Legion - what changed

Background

Legion (27 May 2025) is the first major sov-system maturity follow-on to the Equinox sov rework that shipped on 2024-06-11. Equinox had introduced skyhooks, the per-system Workforce / Power economy, and the player-driven sovereignty fabric; Legion adds the second layer - system-wide Stability Generators, tiered resource-conversion upgrades, escalation-path exploration sites, and a dramatically streamlined skyhook conquest workflow. It also lands two new capital-class warships (the Triglavian Babaroga marauder and the Angel Cartel Sarathiel dreadnought), introduces Freelance Jobs as a corp-driven gig economy that bridges unattached pilots and player corporations, and ships a sweeping balance pass that touches cruisers, capitals, supercapitals, doomsday weapons, and the Surgical Strike resist legacy.

The expansion was announced at Fanfest 2025 on 2 May, with the In Focus drop on 13 May, full patch notes on 23 May, and launch on 27 May. Two follow-on updates (the 24 June "Not-So-Little Things" patch and the 9 September "Legion Major Update") landed before Catalyst arrived six months later.

What changed, by playstyle

PvP

Two new capital-class hulls fundamentally change subcap and capital fleet doctrines. The Babaroga is CCP's framing of "peak potential subcapital DPS" - a Triglavian marauder pairing disintegrator damage with bastion-mode survivability, far more resilient than the Leshak. The Sarathiel is an Angel Cartel dreadnought built around capital projectile damage and falloff with a unique twist: it can move and use a capital micro jump drive while in siege mode, redefining what dreadnought positioning looks like.

Sov nullsec gains four system-wide Stability Generators (Gamma -> shield + cap capacity, Plasma -> armor + overheat, Electric -> cap recharge + targeting / D-Scan, Exotic -> scan resolution + warp speed) that let alliances tailor territory to their preferred doctrine. Skyhook conquest is also dramatically streamlined: a single click captures all skyhooks in a conquered system, removing the destroy-and-rebuild cycle that previously dominated raid windows.

The capital meta retune is large. Directed doomsday damage gains 20% and a new Advanced Doomsday Operations skill book layers another 7.5% per level. The Surgical Strike supercap/titan shield+armor extender penalty rolls back fully (400% supers, 500% titans). Fighter salvos +50% time-on-field; Space Superiority Fighters lose damage against subcaps (anti-fighter specialist now). Surgical Strike resistance changes are dialled back -10% - fights become less binary, logistics gets a real intervention window.

Industry

The two new ships drive immediate BPC supply chains. The Babaroga is invention-only off Leshak BPCs; the Sarathiel BPCs come from the Malakim Zealots LP store, accessed via Zarzakh or Angel Pirate Insurgency FOBs. Both opened entirely new top-end-cap manufacturing markets at launch.

Sov nullsec gets resource conversion upgrades that generate workforce from power and vice versa, in three tiers - letting industrial alliances tune system loadouts to fit member activity instead of being locked to fixed local resource pools. This is a direct extension of the Equinox sov-economy framework.

QoL pickup: the industry window now shows blueprint counts across all of New Eden (or filter by specific location) - the long-standing "where did I leave that BPC" friction goes away. Damaged crystal status reveals on hover-tooltip in the inventory.

Social

Freelance Jobs are the headline social feature. Corporations publish open jobs (up to 100 active per corp); pilots can hold up to 3 active jobs at a time. Jobs are visible from 5 jumps away via the Opportunities window, broadcast from up to 20 rented-office systems per job. Starting types cover Destroy non-capsuleers, Damage capsuleers, Mine, FW Complex Capture, FW Complex Defend, and Ship Insurance. Designed as the discovery layer that lets new pilots try corp work without a formal application - and lets corps spot promising recruits before the application step.

Corporation Palette gives every corp full RGB/HEX color control over three official colors. The corp logo editor moves from preset swatches to a full color picker later in 2025; recruitment also picks up custom invite messages, local-time display in corp ads, and broader language filters.

The AIR Career Program awards 2× Skill Points to Omega pilots, alongside an Omega brand visual rework.

Exploration

Sov exploration upgrades return - guaranteed-spawn-on-install, multi-system distribution affecting spawn rates across several systems instead of just one, and escalation-path chances across each tier with new implant + module rewards. Strategic systems become genuine treasure-trove targets.

The map overhaul is iteration 1 of a long-term project to bring the new map up to parity with the classic experience and third-party tools. This first pass adds filter sharing through chat, a view-mode toggle, and quick-action buttons that mark current location and home station at a glance.

Aftermath

Legion Update: Not-So-Little Things (24 June) and Legion Major Update (9 September) folded in skyhook-conquest tuning, additional balance adjustments, and module bonuses. The Catalyst expansion landed on 18 November 2025 - pivoting the focus to mining and industry, but inheriting Legion's sov scaffolding and balance-pass baseline.
