Capsuleer Day XX - twentieth-anniversary (2023)

The 20th-anniversary edition - Capsuleer Day XX, 2 May - 30 May 2023 - extended to a four-week window, introduced tradeable Smuggler Lockbox event loot (1M ISK each to NPCs), bumped PvP loot drop from 50% to 75%, and was used as the launch platform to unveil the Viridian expansion.
Capsuleer Day XX - twentieth-anniversary (2023)
2 May 2023 to 30 May 2023, a four-week window. EVE Online's twentieth birthday was the largest Capsuleer Day edition CCP had ever shipped. The window doubled from the 2022 XIX three-week format to a full four weeks, the login-ladder bar to claim all rewards rose to 20 days out of 29 available, and several permanent or semi-permanent format changes landed alongside the event content.
The site arc continued the XIX faction-choice format. Capsuleers picked between the Society of Conscious Thought (SoCT) and the Guri Malakim pirate cooperative; each faction offered distinct booster lines (SoCT boosters favoured scanning, armour, and agility - Guri boosters favoured observability, shield, and turret). SKIN rewards were shared across both choices and rolled out across the Apotheosis, Sunesis, Gnosis, Praxis, Dramiel, Worm, and Gila hulls - a mix of SoCT-branded and pirate-faction-aligned platforms.
Two structural changes made XX historically significant:
- Tradeable event loot. Guri Malakim sites dropped Smuggler Lockboxes that could be sold to NPCs for 1,000,000 ISK each. This was a notable policy shift - earlier event loot had largely been tied to soulbound-style consumption (boosters, SKINs, SP injectors). Making event drops tradeable in this way set a precedent that later editions partially built on (XXIII Warpath's trader-token economy is a direct descendant).
- Increased PvP loot drop rate. For the duration of the event, the loot drop rate for all player ships and POSes was raised from 50% to 75%. Combined with a temporary market sales-tax reduction (8% to 4% for a four-day window), this nudged players toward more PvP and more market activity than baseline.
XX was also the announcement window for the Viridian expansion (13 June 2023). CCP used the 20th-anniversary celebration as the marketing platform to reveal Viridian - a corp-management and shared-spaces expansion - and the timing made the anniversary news cycle one of the busiest of any Capsuleer Day in the formally-branded era.
The reward totals for the login ladder reached 85,000 Skill Points for Alpha and 425,000 additional Skill Points + 12,000 EverMarks for Omega, plus the standard boosters and SKINs. The 20th anniversary got the most mainstream press coverage of any anniversary to date, with significant pickup at PCGamesN, Massively OP, and other gaming-press outlets.
