EVE's 11th anniversary on 6 May 2014 - three free Gecko drones to every active subscriber, plus a week-long community PvE goal event (mine, manufacture, kill) that unlocked four more Geckos when miners and industrialists hit their targets ahead of the Kronos release.
Capsuleer Day 2014 - 11th Anniversary
The 11th anniversary of EVE Online's launch fell on 6 May 2014, and for the first time CCP wrapped the anniversary in a week-long community goal event rather than a single-day gift drop. Every active subscriber received three Gecko heavy drones in their redeem queue at the start of the event window, and a four-category community meter ran from server downtime on 6 May to server downtime on 13 May:
- Two mining-volume targets (total ore extracted across the cluster).
- Two science & industry job-submission targets (research, manufacturing, invention starts).
- Two PvP / kills targets.
- Two PvE / mission completion targets.
For each meter the community pushed past, an additional Gecko unlocked into the redeem system - up to four extra (so seven Geckos total per account if everything was met). In the actual event, only the mining and industry meters cleared: as CCP publicly noted, "miners and industrialists are far better at what they do than our combat pilots." The four additional Geckos were issued via the redeem system, with redemption tokens set to expire on the 3 June 2014 release of Kronos - locking the gift cleanly to the start of that summer's release schedule.
The week-long format was a meaningful template-shift. Earlier anniversaries had been single-day gift hand-outs (2008 Apotheosis, 2011 Quafe, 2013 Gnosis) or month-long redeem windows on a static gift box (2012). The 2014 community-meter format is the closest direct ancestor of the modern 2018+ "Capsuleer Day" event arc with its themed combat-site loops and daily progression rewards.
