Battle of B-R5RB
21 hours of fighting in B-R5RB-D8 ended with 75 titans destroyed - the largest single-engagement loss of capital ships in EVE history at the time.
Battle of B-R5RB
Background
By late 2013, nullsec had settled into the supercap-stalemate era. N3 + Pandemic Legion ran the Wrecking Ball doctrine - a supercarrier ball with carrier reps that had been winning fights for over a year. CFC + Russian Coalition (DTF) had been on the back foot. B-R5RB, a station system in Immensea, was held by Nulli Secunda's H A V O C corp (an N3 member).
A missed sovereignty-bill payment by H A V O C made B-R5RB vulnerable on 27 January 2014. CFC / Rus jumped in opportunistically to grab the now-undefended space. N3 + PL responded.
The engagement
The fight ran roughly 21 hours. CFC / Rus pre-positioned a capital fleet on top of N3 + PL's forming Wrecking Ball before it could anchor. The doctrinal answer was: don't let the ball form; accept the capital trade; win on weight of numbers. Mid-battle command of the N3 / PL fleet handed off from Manfred Sideous to Vince Draken.
7,548 unique characters participated. 2,670 in-system at peak. Per-side cap-pilot split (per community sources): ~3,670 on the CFC / Rus side, ~1,616 on the N3 / PL side. CCP published only the combined number.
The records and the cost
75 Titans destroyed in a single system (16 CFC / Rus, 59 N3 / PL), plus 14 Supercarriers, 365 Dreadnoughts, and 117 Carriers. ~775 doomsdays fired across the engagement - roughly 24% of all doomsdays fired in the preceding two years happened in this one system. ~11 trillion ISK destroyed in total, valued at roughly US$300,000-330,000 in player game-time. CCP framed it at the time as "Gaming's Most Destructive Battle Ever."
It held the title for seven years, until M2-XFE in 2020.
Aftermath
CFC / Rus took the system. CCP later built The Titanomachy, a permanent in-system monument made from the non-salvageable wrecks. It is still in B-R5RB in 2026.
The doctrinal lesson - don't let the ball anchor; accept the capital trade - became the canonical CFC answer to the Wrecking Ball.
Returning player note
If you stopped playing before 2014, B-R5RB is the single event that defines what nullsec sov politics had become by the start of that year.
It is also a tour-stop: undock at the in-system gate; the wrecks are still there.

What does “held the field” mean?
The badge marks the side that held the field at the end of this engagement — who was still on grid, who walked away with the objective on the day. It is not a verdict on the wider war or campaign, which often turned on logistics, attrition, or political fallout in the weeks after. The full strategic arc lives in the deep-dive above.
Caveats & contested numbers
CCP published only the combined 7,548 unique characters; the 3,670 / 1,616 capital-pilot split is sourced to Wikipedia and contemporaneous community battle-reports. The split is a long-standing community number but not first-party-corroborated. Kills shown as combined per CCP: 75 Titans destroyed (16 CFC / Rus, 59 N3 / PL), 14 Supercarriers, 365 Dreadnoughts, 117 Carriers, with per-side detail in the deep-dive above. ~775 doomsdays fired across the 21-hour fight, ~24% of all doomsdays in the preceding two years. The 11 T ISK aggregate is CCP-canonical; some recaps cite 11.05-11.5 T.
