EVE's 10th anniversary on 6 May 2013 - every active subscriber received the iconic Society of Conscious Thought Gnosis battlecruiser, EVE smashed its peak-concurrent-user record with 65,303 players online, and Marlona Sky's Flight of a Thousand Rifters lit Jita.
10th Anniversary - Capsuleer Day 2013
EVE Online turned ten on 6 May 2013, and CCP marked the occasion with the most substantive anniversary event of the 2003-2014 arc. The headline gift was the Society of Conscious Thought Gnosis - a free, fittable, undock-it-now battlecruiser delivered into every active subscriber's redeem queue. The Gnosis was not a flavour hull: with no role bonuses but flexible fittings, level-5 base attributes, and SoCT lore framing, it became the iconic "free 10-year ship" that veteran players still reach for as a budget exploration / abyssal hull more than a decade later.
Around the gift CCP organised an unusually ambitious live weekend on Sunday 5 May:
- Hourly fireworks drops across high-sec hubs.
- "Hunt a Dev" roams at 22:30 and 00:30 GMT - players hunting CCP characters for kill credit.
- Community fireworks display at 20:00 GMT, with players encouraged to load fleets with festival charges.
- A peak-concurrent-user push that succeeded on the night, with EVE setting a new PCU record of 65,303 simultaneously logged-in capsuleers (eclipsing the 2011 high of 63,170).
- Player-organised events including Red vs Blue's "Ganked" roam and Marlona Sky's Flight of a Thousand Rifters that ran a frigate parade through the major trade hubs.
In real-world terms, 2013 was also the year EVE publicly hit ~500,000 subscribers - the high-water mark of the subscription era. The Odyssey expansion landed a month later (4 June 2013, exploration overhaul + new probing UI), but the anniversary weekend was sold on its own merits.
The Gnosis later showed up again as a bonus blueprint inside the EVE: The Second Decade Collector's Edition box (October 2013), making the 10th anniversary the only 2003-2014 anniversary whose gift hull went on to be sold in a physical box product.
