EVE Online's 5th anniversary on 6 May 2008 - the first substantive in-game CCP anniversary event, marked by the gift of the iconic Apotheosis anniversary shuttle to every active subscriber, weeks ahead of the Empyrean Age expansion.
5th Anniversary - Capsuleer Day 2008
The 5th anniversary of EVE Online's launch fell on 6 May 2008 and was the first anniversary CCP marked with a substantive in-game gift. Every active capsuleer received an Apotheosis anniversary shuttle - a Society of Conscious Thought hull with enhanced scanner range relative to a standard shuttle and a distinctive caged-piping silhouette - delivered into the home station via the redeem system.
The shuttle came with an in-character note from Idmei Sver of the Society of Conscious Thought:
"For you, children, on your fifth birthday. May your next five years be as full of promise and hope, and may you one day walk with us as equals among the stars."
Beyond the symbolism, the timing turned the Apotheosis into an unexpectedly valuable item: CCP had recently removed NPC vendors of standard shuttles, so the only way to get any kind of cheap travel hull was either the gift Apotheosis or a player-built ship. Apotheoses with the gift attribute have stayed collectible ever since, and the Apotheosis hull went on to become the recurring "anniversary shuttle" gifted via login rewards in later years (re-introduced through the Capsuleer Day XV celebration in 2018 and on the Omega login-reward track from then on).
The 5th anniversary also sat right at the front of one of EVE's biggest expansion arcs. Empyrean Age shipped just over a month later, on 10 June 2008, introducing factional warfare and the four empire militias for the first time. The 5th-anniversary press push explicitly used the upcoming expansion as the celebration's lore runway. For the returning player today, the Apotheosis sitting in their hangar is the cleanest physical artifact of this specific anniversary.
